For the past few months, they have been working hard to make their office more sustainable and improve their score. At 86%, they are now the highest-scoring office in OSU&#8217;s Green Certification history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Since their last certification, the Office of Student Life has made some big changes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Made a new protocol to send out an energy saving checklist to all staff before each break<\/li><li>Identified used battery collection bins and began using them<\/li><li>Identified a compost bin and made signage to direct staff to put food waste there<\/li><li>Invited more employees to subscribe to the sustainability newsletter<\/li><li>Began using the <a href=\"https:\/\/searchadvocate.oregonstate.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Search Advocate program<\/a> to promote equity, diversity and validity in all hiring searches<\/li><li>Hosted a week full of both in-person and virtual sustainability events during OSU&#8217;s Beyond Earth Day that reached a whopping 10% of students!\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div produce!\u00a0There are many other initiatives to look forward to, including\u00a0complimentary biodegradable feminine products in all bathrooms, reusable plastic to-go containers\u00a0and href=\"https:\/\/fa.oregonstate.edu\/sustainability\/planning-policy-assessment\/green-office-certification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Green Office Certification<\/a> is a simple yet effective way for OSU faculty and staff to further their sustainability efforts and get recognition for their work. It is also intended to provide new ideas for easy steps your office can take to reduce your environmental footprint and carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes the shape of an online survey that assesses current office practices under five categories: Utilities, Waste Management, Office Purchasing, Transportation and Travel, and Outreach, Engagement, and Professional Development.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-heading\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-luminous-vivid-orange-color\">Possible Certification Levels:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Copper (50-59%)<\/li><li>Silver (60-69%)<\/li><li>Gold (70-79%)<\/li><li>Platinum (80+%)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t work in an office but are still interested in \u2018greening\u2019 your space? Following the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to reservations in Western Oregon.
