{"id":11083,"date":"2018-10-18T14:44:51","date_gmt":"2018-10-18T21:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/?p=11083"},"modified":"2018-10-18T14:50:56","modified_gmt":"2018-10-18T21:50:56","slug":"state-of-the-coast-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/2018\/10\/18\/state-of-the-coast-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"State of the Coast Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">Registration has opened for Oregon Sea Grant&#8217;s annual\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.stateofthecoast.com\/\">State of the Coast conference<\/a><\/u>, which will be held Oct. 27 in Coos Bay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Billed as Oregon&#8217;s coastal conference for everyone, the event aims to bring together the public, scientists, fishermen, resource managers, artists, teachers, students and conservationists. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn, network and talk about the current status and future of Oregon&#8217;s marine environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The keynote speaker will be science writer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/samkean.com\/\">Sam Kean<\/a>, who authored The New York Times bestseller \u201cThe Disappearing Spoon\u201d and three other popular science books. Arnie Roblan; wildlife photographer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jaymiheimbuch.com\/\">Jaymi Heimbuch<\/a>, and Doug Helton, an emergency response supervisor with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Additionally, students from OSU and other universities in Oregon will talk about their coastal research. Coastal-themed artwork created by university students will also be displayed during the conference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Registration in advance is recommended as space is limited. Cost is $40 for the public and $25 for students. It includes snacks, lunch and a reception.
