However, the IPCC avoids using policy-prescriptive language; they leave the actual policy making up to politicians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Membership in the IPCC is open to member countries of the WMO and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/\">UN<\/a>; the IPCC fills a difficult role of providing \u201crigorous and balanced scientific information\u201d, due to its intergovernmental nature. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">IPCC reports are co-written by thousands of leading scientists and other experts and they undergo many rounds of drafting and revision, so that they are comprehensive, objective, representative of multiple perspectives, and \u201cproduced in an open and transparent way.\u201d The IPCC functions by assessing published scientific literature; it does not conduct any of its own studies. The authors are organized into three working groups: Working Group I (the Physical Science Basis), Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability), and Working Group III (Mitigation of Climate Change). <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">OSU Professors Alan Mix and David Wrathall<\/span><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10837\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10837\" style=\"width: 313px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2018\/08\/mix_b.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10837 \" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/ecologue\/files\/2018\/08\/mix_b-255x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"313\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10837\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Alan Mix<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ceoas.oregonstate.edu\/profile\/mix\/\">Alan Mix<\/a> is a distinguished professor of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, specializing in Ocean Ecology and Biogeochemistry.
