Using qualitative and quantitative methods, I explore the social and ecological dynamics of people and their environments in a variety of contexts, from subsistence economies, social networks, and institutions to conservation, environmental governance, sustainability, and climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My goals are to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.  generate insights on the emergence of cultural practices, values, institutions, and knowledge that help people adapt to social and environmental change<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.  apply these insights in ways that support environmentally sustainable and socially just connections between people and nature<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My work is grounded in long-term ethnographic research with Indigenous communities in the Arctic and extends to collaborations with researchers working in other parts of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am an Associate Professor in Anthropology at <a href=\"https:\/\/liberalarts.oregonstate.edu\/slcs\/anthropology\">Oregon State University<\/a>. I completed a PhD in Anthropology from <a href=\"https:\/\/anthro.rutgers.edu\/\">Rutgers University<\/a> following a BA degree in Anthropology and English Literature at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenyon.edu\/\">Kenyon College<\/a>. Prior to joining OSU, I was a post-doctoral fellow at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sesync.org\/\">University of Maryland<\/a> Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center and the <a href=\"https:\/\/anthropology.washington.edu\/\">University of Washington<\/a> Department of Anthropology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was born and raised in Minnesota, and live in Corvallis, Oregon with my partner, two sons, and dog.
