MGMT 449 Week 1

David Gutierrez

Recently, at my current employer (Home Depot), I was able to negotiate a new wage based off a new job offer with competitive compensation. I was being offered 0.50 cents additionally an hour at this new job, a job I was moderately interested in the Athletic department at Oregon State. I made my manager aware of the offer. I received a pay raise promptly a week after I met with my manager. Since we are currently low-staffed, especially in my department, I was aware of the situation of my employer and made my offer based off their needs. This offer job offer motivated me to seek a wage increase at my current employer, by using leverage of another job offer as well need for workers at my current job, I was able to gain an increase in wages. I felt very appreciated and wanted at my job, which has led to increase in work productivity and commitment. I would have never searched for an increase in wages if it wasn’t for the competing job offer from the University AD. This led a self evaluation of my current job at the Home Depot, which motivated me to negotiate new terms. Since then, I have increasingly applied myself to my work in order to demonstrate the increase in compensation is worth it. With an increase in pay, and a little appreciate employers can increase productivity and overall moral within their business entities.
