To start off, the idea of being able to be sent to another country for work would be an absolute dream come true for me. I would be over the moon excited to pursue an opportunity such as this one. However, even though the experience in itself is highly motivating, the financial compensation has to line up or otherwise could be potentially entering a bad situation where I couldn’t support myself. The first thing I would be looking for is would the salary be adjusted so that it meets the cost-of-living standard in that country based on what I am making now. Since I am taking this opportunity for a job then there needs to be a fair amount of compensation for the work that I am completing. The second thing I would look for is the allowances that the company would be willing to supplement. Moving is not cheap and especially when moving overseas. If a stipend is offered to supplement plane tickets, shipping charges for personal items, and even covering goods and services when arriving in the new city, at least until I am settled. At this point, the attraction for taking the project would be heightened in my personal opinion. The last thing I would be looking for is the kind of benefits they would offer. It is no secret that standards and programs vary from country to country. I think that it would be reasonable to expect the company to modify my benefits package to complement the country that I would be living in.
