Only 6 of the 15 original <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/cutworm\/coast\/\">monitoring sites<\/a> remain, but at those sites, <strong>we have seen a sharp increase in trap counts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We know that it is normal for armyworm to have 3 generations per year, which matches the pattern we see here:<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-343\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/cutworm\/files\/2018\/10\/seasonave_bars.jpg?resize=491%2C294\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2721\/files\/2018\/10\/seasonave_bars.jpg?w=750&amp;ssl=1 750w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/2721\/files\/2018\/10\/seasonave_bars.jpg?resize=300%2C180&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is our first year trapping this species, so these data are invaluable &#8211; thanks, Tom!!<\/p>\n<p>Although the traps are in NW Coastal Oregon, it is not unreasonable to assume that activity patterns are similar here in the Valley. More importantly: This recent peak in adult moth trap catches suggests that (larval) <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">armyworm activity THIS FALL is likely<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If there are any grass seed growers out there who haven&#8217;t sprayed yet (which I doubt there are), you may want to consider it. <a href=\"https:\/\/pnwhandbooks.org\/insect\/hay-pasture\/pasture-grass-hay\/pasture-grass-hay-armyworm-cutworm\">Product list here<\/a>. Or at least hop on the four-wheeler and have a scout around.
