{"id":498,"date":"2026-01-13T18:15:18","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T18:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/currycountymg\/?p=498"},"modified":"2026-01-13T18:15:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T18:15:18","slug":"news-from-your-co-presidents-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/currycountymg\/2026\/01\/13\/news-from-your-co-presidents-3\/","title":{"rendered":"News From Your Co-Presidents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Laura &amp; Martin Teague<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Look Back at 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While there isn\u2019t enough room to list <em>everything <\/em>the CCMGA volunteers accomplished this year, here are some of the highlights that made 2025 such a successful and memorable one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">January<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 Master Gardener Training Classes kicked off with 17 enthusiastic students. Paul Maree, Education Program Assistant II, skillfully led the classes and got the year off to a great start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">February<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We celebrated the grand opening of our new greenhouse\u2014and what a celebration it was! The turnout was impressive, the public came out in strong support, and many Master Gardeners generously volunteered their time to host this successful event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">March<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Master Gardener Volunteer Training classes officially concluded. All 17 students passed their exams!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">April<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plant Clinics began at Chetco Community Public Library in Brookings, Curry Public Library in Gold Beach, and Port Orford Public Library in Port Orford\u2014bringing gardening knowledge directly to our communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">May<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Annual Plant Sale was a huge success, with over <strong>$11,000 in sales and nearly 1,600 plants sold<\/strong>. A fantastic achievement!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>June &amp; July<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the summer months, our wonderful volunteers kept busy helping at Riley Creek School Garden, Little Bear Patch Garden, Driftwood Elementary School Garden, and Pacific High School Garden, ensuring each space remained thriving and beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">August<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Annual Social Event took place at Buffington Park in Gold Beach and featured a potluck, awards presentation, and plenty of good company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Master Gardener of the Year: <\/em>Frank Furtaw\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Growing and Belonging Award: <\/em>Kim Foster\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Behind the Scenes Awards: <\/em>David Denney and Steve Myers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">September<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The official name of our new greenhouse was voted on and approved: <strong>Curry Educational Greenhouse &amp; Garden (CEGG).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">October<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CCMGA was invited to host a booth at the Gold Beach Rotary\u2019s 75th Birthday Bash. Our theme \u2014 <em>\u201cVampires Be Gone: Plant Garlic!\u201d <\/em>\u2014 was a big hit. Over 60 kids and their parents planted garlic to take home and grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">November<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The CCMGA Board voted and approved the 2026 incoming officers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>President \u2013 Jerry Herbage\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vice President \u2013 Martin Teague\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Co-Secretaries \u2013 Cindy Myers &amp; Laura Lee Cundiff\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Treasurer \u2013 Brenda Blythe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00a0Membership \u2013 Lori Phelan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OMGA Representative duties will be co-shared by Cindy Myers and Laura Lee Cundiff<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">December<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We wrapped up the year with our Annual Holiday Event at Pistol River Friendship Hall. The afternoon was festive, with approximately 45 attendees enjoying delicious food, desserts, and a lively White Elephant gift exchange. We also celebrated a special milestone with a ceremony honoring <strong>12 CCMGA Trainee graduates<\/strong>, who received their certificates and badges. Congratulations to all!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With sincere gratitude, thank you to <em>all <\/em>of our Master Gardener volunteers for making 2025 such a successful year. A very special thank you goes to <strong>Paul Maree, Education Program Assistant II<\/strong>, who truly went above and beyond to help everything run smoothly.
