Laura and I wanted to ask for your help; it\u2019s in regards to our spiffy new greenhouse. As I\u2019m pretty sure you already know, the plants grown in our greenhouse are sold at our main fundraiser, the annual Plant Sale which is held in May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While most of the areas of greenhouse operation already have someone leading them (Plant Propagation, Inventory & Plant ID Tags, Marketing & Signage, etc.) there are still a few areas of operation that need someone to take a leadership role. Don\u2019t get spooked by the word \u201cleadership\u201d; the idea is that you coordinate and skootch things along as you see fit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
HOWEVER!!! Maybe you are not interested in being the big cheese leader, but one or more of the tasks sounds like fun to you. For instance, I\u2019m really, really interested in learning how to make those cool succulent planters; the ones that look like they are made of concrete, but weigh next to nothing. But I don\u2019t have time to be the Succulent Propagation & Planters Meister. So, I\u2019ll be volunteering to help make the planters, but I don\u2019t want to be the leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Up-Potting Plants <\/em><\/strong> Weeding, Fertilizing & Pest control <\/em><\/strong> Watering Succulent Propagation & Planters Veggie\/Herb Propagation
– Train and assign volunteers
– Determine if\/when plants are ready to up-pot
– Repot root bound plants
– Ensure the pots get cleaned and sterilized
– As needed, buy pots of various sizes and trays <\/p>\n\n\n\n
– Train and assign volunteers
– Keep pots weeded and de-mossed
– Watch for pests or other damage and mitigate as needed <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/em><\/strong>– Train and assign volunteers
– Schedule; up to 3 times a week, depending on the weather
– Takes about 2 hours to water all plants thoroughly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/em><\/strong>– Train and assign volunteers
– Locate cuttings, new plants
– Buy supplies as needed (soil, perlite, vermiculite, coconut coir, grit)
– Create planters prior to the sale <\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/em><\/strong>– Train and assign volunteers
– Buy seeds and supplies (pots, soil, etc.)
– Up-pot as needed
– Provide information for plant labels
– Inventory list
– Arrange transportation to the sale location<\/p>\n\n\n\n
