Critiquing a Recruitment Ad

Week 4 Blog Post

Trying to describe your own brand can be a little hard for me because I am not a person that likes to talk about myself. However, the first impression that I want to give off when I meet my new employer this summer for the first time is that I am a dedicated, strong minded, hardworking individual that wants to be a contributing and well respected member of the team. I am a organized person that always shows up on time, which will help my case for the brand I am going to try to be establishing for myself this summer. I am willing to take on new tasks and learn new things, but like to be good at things, which brings me into my weakness. As cliche as this is, me being a perfectionist definitely has its disadvantages. I can get frustrated easily when things aren’t turning out the way I had originally planned, which can eventually to cause me to pay less attention to what I am doing.

This information about me can be communicated to employers in many different ways. For example, this information about my strengths and why I am a good fit for the job will be in the resume and the cover letter, so they have some sort of background on me before they meet me in the interview process. Another way this could be communicated would be in career fairs, when you only have about 30 seconds to a minute to introduce yourself and give a slight background of why your interested in the job. Finally, another way would be posting an ad somewhere describing your qualifications and work experience which can be another good way to establish your brand awareness. In all of these situations, it is important to present yourself in a very professional manner and describe the good characteristics about yourself without sounding too arrogant. When you talk about yourself in these situations, it is okay to brag, just don’t come off as cocky or belittling to the interviewer.
