{"id":1054,"date":"2024-10-08T10:45:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T17:45:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/cphhs-internships\/?p=1054"},"modified":"2024-10-08T10:45:03","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T17:45:03","slug":"gender-health-equity-research-internship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/cphhs-internships\/2024\/10\/gender-health-equity-research-internship\/","title":{"rendered":"Gender Health Equity &amp; Research Internship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Position Title:<\/strong> Gender Health Equity &amp; Research Internship<br><strong>Organization: <\/strong>Mid Willamette Trans Support Network (MWTSN)<br><strong>Location:<\/strong> Hybrid: 90% Remote 10% in person in Corvallis (will consider qualified applicants who require 100% remote)<br><strong>Compensation: <\/strong>$3,000 ($250 per week for 12 weeks)<br><strong>Weekly Hours<\/strong>: The weekly hourly commitment for students can be tailored to meet departmental and credit requirements, with a minimum requirement of 12-15 hours per week.<br><br><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><br>This internship is open to:<br>\u25cf Current graduate students at Oregon State University (OSU) in Public Health, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS), or Queer Studies.<br>\u25cf Undergraduate students with senior standing in these fields who provide a letter of recommendation.<br>\u25cf Community members with a bachelor\u2019s degree in WGSS, Public Health, or a related field or Individuals with 5+ years of health equity-related experience.<br>\u25cf Position is mainly remote, but strong preference for individuals in the Corvallis\/Albany area or folks with ability to travel to Corvallis.<br><br><strong>Required Qualifications:<br><\/strong>\u25cf Interest in health equity, LGBTQI+ health, trans\/intersex health, and cultural health promotion.<br>\u25cf Excellent writing skills.<br>\u25cf Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met.<br>\u25cf Interest in developing research skills.<br>\u25cf Commitment to anti-racism, social justice, equity, and inclusion.<br>\u25cf Ability to communicate respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds, including other health professionals, community members, stakeholders, MWTSN volunteers\/staff, and other agencies.<br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><br>\u25cf Strong academic background.<br>\u25cf Research experience and\/or simple data analysis<br>\u25cf Experience communicating health information or developing training materials.<br>\u25cf Grant writing or grant application preparation experience.<br>.<br><strong>About MWTSN:<\/strong><br>Founded in 2016, Mid Willamette Trans Support Network (MWTSN) is a 501(c) nonprofit organized as a community-based, grassroots organization working to support the transgender, nonbinary, intersex, gender nonconforming, and gender-ethnic minority communities, as well as their families, tribal relations, and kinship systems.<br><br><strong>Mission:<\/strong><br>MWTSN is dedicated to supporting transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender-diverse individuals and their families through community support and advocacy.<br><br><strong>Position Overview:<\/strong><br>The Gender Health Equity &amp; Research Internship offers individuals experience in nonprofit service work, reproductive justice research, health equity promotion, and professional development. The intern will work closely with the Grant and Health Program Coordinator (GHPC) to support MWTSN\u2019s mission and contribute to ongoing projects and initiatives. Includes some administrative\/clerical support and support for other MWTSN Staff as delegated by the MWTSN Executive Director and GHPC.<br><br><strong>Main Tasks &amp; Responsibilities:<\/strong><br>\u25cf (~3 hrs\/wk) Research Assistance:<br>\u25cb Support data analysis of MWTSN\u2019s internal programs.<br>\u25cb Assist with the design, implementation, and analysis of the revamped LGBTQI+ Community Health Needs Assessment and reproductive health needs assessment.<br>\u25cb Collaborate on research tasks to identify key health needs and disparities within the community.<br><br>\u25cf (~3 hrs\/wk) Grant Preparation &amp; Reporting:<br>\u25cb Create simple reports using demographic data for grants and program<br>evaluation.<br>\u25cb Help prepare grant applications for submission.<br>\u25cb Assist in writing reports for completed grant-funded projects.<br><br>\u25cf (~3 hrs\/wk) Health Promotion Activities:<br>\u25cb Support the GHPC in creating, promoting, and delivering health equity training sessions.<br>\u25cb Opportunity to develop and conduct an independent training on trans, intersex, and gender-diverse health topics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25cf (~2 hrs\/wk) Administrative and Clerical Support:<br>\u25cb Provide general administrative support as needed, including data entry,<br>scheduling, and document management.<br>\u25cf (\u227f2 hrs\/wk) Professional Development:<br>\u25cb Participate in regular mentoring meetings with the GHPC.<br>\u25cb Shadow the GHPC during outreach and engagement activities.<br>\u25cb Attend community advisory council and board meetings to gain insights into nonprofit management and stakeholder engagement.<br><br>\u25cf (~2 hrs\/wk) Staff Meetings<br>\u25cb Attend bi-weekly straff meetings, and weekly mentor\/preceptor meetings<br><br><strong>Benefits:<\/strong><br>\u25cf Gain hands-on experience in public health research and nonprofit work.<br>\u25cf Develop skills in grant writing, program evaluation, and health promotion.<br>\u25cf Opportunity to network with professionals and community stakeholders.<br>\u25cf Flexible work schedule with potential for remote work.<br>\u25cf Mentorship and professional development opportunities.<br>\u25cf Opportunity to apply a feminist, anti-racist, and disability justice oriented lens to community-based work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Our staff leadership are all OSU graduates.
