Health Promotion Program Graduate Student Intern Position Description
Position Title: Health Promotion Program Graduate Intern
Classification: Paid Internship for a total of 200 hours
Division: Lincoln County Public Health

POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for assisting the Health Promotion Team with duties related to the implementation of the Tobacco Prevention & Education Program (TPEP) in the areas of health communication, prevention, and education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES OF THIS POSITION: These items do not include all the specific tasks that an intern may be expected to perform with or without accommodation.
The following internship products should be completed by the end of the internship period:
a.
Health communication campaign about e-cigarette waste and disposal in Lincoln County
b.
Community health education presentation
- Create health communication campaign materials for e-cigarette disposal education and vaping behavior change
a. Conduct a literature review on the impacts of e-cigarette waste on the environment, waste disposal systems, and the community.
c. Create a portfolio of health education materials for various audiences by designing health communication messaging for behavior change and create a communication calendar. Communication materials can include but are not limited to: Social media posts, fact sheets, hand outs for schools, presentations, flyers, policy briefs, press release etc.
d. Integrate and promote cessation resources including the Oregon Tobacco Quit Line and Smokefree Oregon in the education materials.
e. Collaborate with community partners to solicit and integrate feedback on education materials and to distribute communication materials. - Identify methods of a monitoring and evaluation for health communication campaign
a. Use completed literature review to propose methods of monitoring and evaluating behavior change resulting from the created communication campaign.
b. Draft communication evaluation tools to measure behavior and knowledge change through anecdotal feedback
c. Apply theory in the development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion materials - Other Related Duties
a. Regularly attend Health Promotion and TPEP team meetings, meetings with community partners as they relate to the TPEP program, and other health promotion program areas.
b. Participate in Health Promotion Team activities and projects as assigned. Examples include: support with outreach events, support with county and community trainings
c. Meet with preceptor(s) weekly to provide updates on internship projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: Must have a bachelor’s degree and must be enrolled in an approved educational institution pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration, Prevention Studies, Public Policy, Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Health and Education, Health Policy, or other related public health field.

Competency in Microsoft suite applications
•
Experience with creating and disseminating health communication materials
•
Experience researching evidence-based health promotion interventions and strategies
Preferred qualification: Bilingual in English/Spanish
