SWASTI Global Health Opportunities

Variety of Options available, apply on rolling basis

Swasti (Sanskrit for ‘wellbeing’) is a Global South-focused civil society organization that is committed to adding 100 million ‘wellthy[1] days’ for Vulnerable Communities.  Swasti upgrades the discourse from health to wellbeing and brings the missing pieces in wellbeing together (social, behavioral, management, and technology) around the technical/medical aspects, with a strong focus on Prevention and Promotion[2] – and therein lies its uniqueness. Swasti strives to partner with communities in making everyday well-being real for the most vulnerable.

Swasti’s success is in reinventing systems that work for all, particularly for the vulnerable and the multidisciplinary teams at Swasti do two things well

  1. Demonstrate scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable models in partnership with communities
  2. Support partners to reach impact.

Swasti’s work loops Policy-Practise-Policy, at sub-national, national, regional and international levels with a range of partners among impact organizations, bilateral, multilateral, government, foundations, academic, and corporate bodies.

Internship Program

Swasti’s internship program started in 2005, with our first intern from the Boston University School of Public health. Since then we have had 300+ interns from 20+ universities in 15+ countries. From national-level policy work to grounded research on LGBTQAI issues, our interns have built inspiring careers in global health development. We take pride in all our interns, and we’ve fostered those relationships over the years into collaborations and close personal friendships. We have hosted learners from prestigious universities all over the world like Harvard School of Public Health, Boston University, UPenn, Oregon State University, Purdue University, University of Michigan, Royal Tropical Inst, Stanford University, USC Berkeley, University of Illinois Chicago, Royal Tropic Institute, Amsterdam, SUNY, Yale School of Public Health, Tufts University, National Yan Min University, Taiwan, University College London, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Azim Premji University, Ashoka University, Institute of Rural Management, etc.

Our minimum internship requirement spans 8 weeks (inclusive of preps, onsite/offsite). This is to ensure that the learner actually gets to imbibe lifelong learning as well as complete an assignment that is a CV builder. For Swasti, the investment in time must lead to a meaningful result and for that to happen a minimum time requirement is essential. Once the project is identified, and the learning commitment is signed, the time period is fixed, and regular reviews are scheduled. There is one mid-term review with faculty from the school where the student is hosted. Swasti will seek feedback from the learner, their mentee/supervisor as well as from the faculty assigned. For group projects, there will be 360-degree feedback.

Many organizations demand a fee for internship opportunities, but we choose not to, instead our fee is your time,  commitment, and continued relationship.

Some of our internships are attached to projects where there may be some budgetary allocations.
