I will\u00a0teach courses related to forest ecology and wildlife, but my research program will\u00a0still be focused on understanding wildlife that inhabits forests \u2013 mostly managed forests. This is a new chapter for me, and I\u2019m really excited about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2019\/10\/IMG_8774.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-594\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2019\/10\/IMG_8774.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2019\/10\/IMG_8774-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2019\/10\/IMG_8774-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What\u2019s your favorite part of your job?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I get to pursue knowledge in areas that are of interest to me, but that are also relevant to how we manage our forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do you do when you\u2019re not working<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spend time with my\u00a0family. We have\u00a0two young kids, our son is\u00a0four\u00a0and a half\u00a0and\u00a0our daughter is\u00a0almost two.\u00a0My son is interested in tractors and machinery, so this summer we went to the Oregon Steam Up, which is a gathering of people with old style tractors back to the steam era. That\u2019s something we never would have done otherwise. We also like to hike and\u00a0explore the outdoors, and go to\u00a0the\u00a0Corvallis\u00a0Knights\u00a0baseball games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are you reading anything interesting lately?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m reading a book about\u00a0the rise and the fall of the Comanche called\u00a0<em>Empire of the Summer Moon<\/em>.\u00a0Since I spent time in Kansas, I like things about Western exploration, native tribes and mountain men. I love Edward Abbey\u2019s work as well, and would highly recommend it (especially Desert Solitaire. I try to read something non-work related before I go to bed every night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You study birds. Are you an early bird or a night owl?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite studying birds for 20 years, I\u2019m still not a morning person. Some people bounce out of bed, but when I get up, I think, \u2018Oh no, what have I done?!?\u2019\u00a0If I don\u2019t have to get out of bed in the morning for work or kids, I\u2019ll sleep in as long as I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How do you like to stay active?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I can, I like to play basketball at Dixon. My Labrador has a lot of energy, so sometimes I take her\u00a0hiking or\u00a0trail\u00a0running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you were going to sing a song at karaoke, what would it be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTwo of a Kind Working on a Full House\u201d by Garth Brooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do you like country music?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not as a general rule, but for some reason, I got one of his albums years ago, and I really liked it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s new?
