What is your job?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m the research computing systems administrator. In that role, I do many things. I\u2019m making sure the virtual machine platform is running. I run our backup system,\u00a0SQL Servers,\u00a0and I take care of the few Microsoft websites we still have running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you end up at Oregon State?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went to school here. I studied computer science and psychology. I went down to the University of Oregon to do a cognitive neuroscience program when my friend Ken West called and asked if I wanted a job in the College of Forestry. I thought, money or more school? Money or more school? I decided to take the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your favorite part of your work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That it\u2019s never the same thing every day. Right now, I\u2019m working with Mariapaola Riggio to help get censors into the new building, and that\u2019s been especially interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your interests outside of work?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like woodworking, scuba diving and martial arts.\u00a0I was\u00a0involved with Boy ScoutTroop 1 in Corvallis, and both my boys are Eagles.\u00a0\u00a0Now, I\u2019m the\u00a0Eagle\u00a0Advancement for\u00a0Benton\u00a0district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did you learn about woodworking?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My father-in-law taught me the basics when I needed to make a table for the first tiny apartment my wife and I shared. I also took Seri Robinson\u2019s woodturning classes. I\u00a0recently\u00a0bought a lathe, and now I\u2019m hooked\u00a0on turning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about scuba diving?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a PADI Open Water Instructor and\u00a0I took\u00a0my first scuba\u00a0class here at Oregon State in 1993. There are a lot of opportunities here, and if you can find a way to take advantage of them, you\u2019ll never be bored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell me about your family.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife and I have been married for 26 years. I met her when I was working as a student. I installed her Ethernet card. We have two sons. They are 22 and 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What have you been watching on Netflix lately?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call the Midwife and Downton Abbey. We\u2019re really excited for the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are your favorite foods?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love Japanese, Thai, Mexican\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
