The laboratory is directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/directory.forestry.oregonstate.edu\/people\/lyons-kevin\">Kevin Lyons<\/a>, the Wes Lematta Professor in Forest Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lyons and his team introduced participants to the John Deere forest harvesting simulator system. This system, which includes a terrain editor and a forest harvesting simulator, allows for virtual and experiential learning. It empowers users to begin learning about machine operation, silviculture and harvesting system planning, and mapping topography and forest cover.&nbsp; It also explores ecology and non-timber values using gaming techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"426\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2021\/12\/MHL_blog2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2021\/12\/MHL_blog2.jpg 426w, https:\/\/osu-wams-blogs-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com\/blogs.dir\/3115\/files\/2021\/12\/MHL_blog2-300x239.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><figcaption><em>Figure 1.
