Fun (and Fear) in job searching

This is for all the people looking for their first software development position, just like me. First off, how’s it going? Are you staying hydrated? Keeping a positive mental attitude?

We’ve all heard stories of new grads going to google and making pretty amazing salaries, and we’ve heard stories of grads who (gulp) don’t manage to find a job using their degree for a whole year if not (double gulp) ever! Needless to say, those that suffer from catastrophizing like me have spent much time hoping that that won’t be them.

If anyone reading this is as filled with trepidation as I am about the future, know that you’re not alone! It’s tough finding that first position to take a chance on you, and at this time (October 2021) there’s plenty of sources out there saying “hot job market” enough to perhaps make you feel like a failure if you’re not instantly scoring interviews left and right.

All I can say to wrap this up is, we just can’t give up, and we can’t let our lives be ruled by what ifs. If you continue to apply, and to apply yourself to becoming a more attractive candidate, the law of statistics will almost certainly come to your aid, and you will find a job.

Let’s just all keep our fingers crossed and our spirits high! Bon chance and Bon Voyage!
