Biography

Dr. Benjamin Tsai is an assistant professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU). His research focuses on nearshore processes and fluid-soil interaction, with a specific emphasis on high-fidelity numerical modeling. He leverages advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to investigate complex phenomena, including wave propagation and breaking in the inner surf and swash zones, as well as wave-induced scour around structures. By bridging the gap between fluid and soil mechanics, Dr. Tsai’s work aims to advance the understanding of coastal erosion and improve the stability of marine infrastructure. Prior to joining OSU, he served as a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center.
