{"id":897,"date":"2021-01-12T09:30:45","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T17:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/coastaltourism\/?p=897"},"modified":"2020-08-28T10:43:49","modified_gmt":"2020-08-28T17:43:49","slug":"tide-pooling-on-the-oregon-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.oregonstate.edu\/coastaltourism\/tide-pooling-on-the-oregon-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Tide Pooling on the Oregon Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0The Oregon Coast has some excellent areas for tide pooling, which amazes and attracts visitors of all ages.<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Tide pooling is going out to rocky shores at low tides to touch and observe critters that live there. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">During low tide,<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">organisms that live in zones between the high and low tide are exposed from the water.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">They can be seen stuck to rocks or swimming and crawling in small tide pools of water.<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Some cannot withstand being exposed to air for very long.<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">As tides go out, more delicate organisms will be visible. Therefore, it is important to track low tides and times before planning a tide pooling trip. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Resources<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">There are many resources for<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">identifying<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">wildlife in tide pools and along the beaches, such as ID guides found in bookstores or that can be printed online. In addition, some Oregon State Parks offer interpretive walks and other programs open to the public. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Guides<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"paragraph\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">There are also opportunities to hire guides for<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">tide pooling, such as<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Wavecrest<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Discoveries.<\/span><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0By going tide pooling with a guide, you get much more out of the experience than just being able to identify different species.
