Identifying IP vs. Print Server Departments

In an effort to help everyone identify which departments have had their printers migrated over to the print server I’m updating Inventory by marking printers as inactive and adding just one printer record called ISCS-PrintQ. Specific details about these printers can be found in the comments section of the ISCS-PrintQ record. Since the E-Interview pulls from Inventory you will now only see ISCS-PrintQ as an option for migrated departments. Take a look at Board of Trustees in Inventory for an example.

New Core Migration: OSU Board of Trustees

Last night the OSU Board of Trustees were moved to the new core.

Cyder/IP change
All workstations and printers…
Moved from: zone.budgets (128.193.26.26 – 128.193.26.100) Moved to: zone.cn_univadmin (10.160.120.150 – 10.160.123.253)

Printer change
Old IP printers were removed from workstations and replaced with new print queues.
Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-526-HP-Color-LaserJet-CP4025DN
Printer IP: 10.160.120.192
Printer driver: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v6.0.0)
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 526 HP Color LaserJet CP4025DN
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – OSU Board
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – OSU Board

Resolved Issues
All computers and printers were shut down last night. As a result, nobody pulled a new IP address until everything was turned on.

Unresolved Issues
Debbie has been having blue screen issues which caused the migration to fail for her. I will submit a helpdesk request for this.

New Core Migration: Financial Aid

Last night the IP range for Financial Aid was reconfigured to accommodate more workstations and printers in Kerr.

Cyder/IP change
Old ranges:
10.214.18.5 – 10.214.18.20 dynamic
10.214.18.21 – 10.214.18.84 static
New ranges:
10.214.18.5 – 10.214.18.55 dynamic
10.214.18.56 – 10.214.19.253 static
The result of this move was moving all hosts in bulk up into the new static range. Additionally, this new IP space will accommodate all workstations and printers in the CN_StudentAdmin security domain. This will become more relevant as we migrate these departments to the new core.

Printer change
Old IP printers were removed from workstations and replaced with new print queue printers.
Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-108-Ricoh-MP-201
Printer IP: 10.214.18.90
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 108 Ricoh MP 201
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-220C-HP-LaserJet-4200TN
Printer IP: 10.214.18.87
Printer driver: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v6.0.0)
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 220C HP LaserJet 4200TN
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-220C-Ricoh-MP-5002
Printer IP: 10.214.18.89
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 220C Ricoh MP 5002
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Financial Aid
Note: The GPOs only apply to the department’s users OU and domain users in the security group above.

Resolved Issues
IP printers were supposed to be removed automatically but weren’t on many systems. We resolved this manually given there weren’t many machines.
The reason for this is many printers were installed incorrectly with port names like 10.214.18.21_1. This likely occurred because an existing port wasn’t used when setting up printers. I’m looking into a way to accommodate for this.

Unresolved Issues
Just about every machine we logged into with our User+ account resulted in the error below. Most folks were running Office 2010 which could be related. I will submit a ticket for investigation.

Print server implementation for Financial Aid

CN Financial Aid Customers,

Telecom will be expanding the network space you currently reside in to accommodate more workstations and printers in Kerr. Additionally, the Community Network will be migrating your printers to our print server and deploying new printer configurations to your workstations.

When: Tonight, starting after 5:00 PM

What do I need to do?

Please leave your computer turned on and logged off; the easiest way to do this is to simply restart your computer before you leave for the day. Note that your first login after the migration might be slow as the new printer configs take effect.

Services affected:

– All CN supported computers running Windows or Windows Virtual Machine software.

– All networked printers.

How is printing going to change?

– Your printers will still be available to you as before but will show up differently (see attached image).

– You may need to select a new default printer and reconfigure your printing preferences.

– Printers will no longer be manually installed. If there’s a change to existing printers or new printers are added, only the print server needs to be updated and everyone will automatically get the change.

Community Network technicians will be available on-site tomorrow morning to address any issues or questions you may have.

Thank you for your patience while we apply these changes.
