Moving Client Services to Teams

As of early last week, all OSU students and employees are licensed for MS Teams. It’s time to start moving some Client Services’ channels over.

One difficulty is that the rest of IS and IT at OSU are still in Slack, and we collaborate with those other groups quite often. Slack has been a powerful tool for us in that regard. As such, we can’t abandon Slack yet and will have to live in two worlds for a time.

Please read on for some upcoming changes to Slack and Teams for Client Services.

Moving to Channels in Teams

The following channels will be moved from Slack to MS teams as channels under the IS Client Services team (only employees in IS Client Services will be able to see these):

  • knowledgebase
  • milne-building
  • operators
  • sd-builds-loaners
  • sd-development
  • sd-lan
  • sd-marketing
  • sd-mentors
  • sd-troubleshooting

Moving to Private Group Chats

Because Teams does not yet support private channels, I am setting up private group chats for the following:

  • cn-accounts
  • sd-student-leads

Moving to Public Team

Because we often use the #service-desk channel to collaborate with others, I have requested a public team for Service Desk. Anyone in the organization can join a public team, up to 500 members.

Staying on Slack for Now

Client Services employees will still use Slack for discussion with other groups in the following channels for now:

  • accounts (IAM)
  • avst
  • banner_xe
  • box
  • cab
  • canvas-kaltura
  • endpoint_team
  • general
  • is-campus-labs
  • it-infrastructure
  • linux-experts
  • mac-experts
  • microsoft-experts
  • ois
  • teamdynamix
  • zoom

RefTool Update (10-24-19)

RefTool will receive an update today after 7 PM. It adds a field named Duo Enforced to an account. Additionally, it adds the copy button to a few more fields.

“Duo Enforced”

A new field named Duo Enforced is added to RefTool. While Duo Mandatory is set by policy, Duo Enforced is set for special cases, such as grace period given to an account or a new account being given 7 days to sign up for Duo. Normally, Duo Enforced is set to “No”, unless the enforcement date is <7 days away, or it has passed.

Duo Enforced is the absolute date on which an account will be unusable without Duo.

To illustrate how Duo works, below are few screenshots with explanations:

Duo Mandatory is set by policy for this student. Duo Enforced is set to “No”, however, since the enforcement date is more than 7 days away.
Duo Enforced is set for this account, because the date has passed.

The Copy Button

The copy button is currently used for an account’s Account Location, Distinguished Name, and Groups. It’ll be added to the following fields:

  • Username
  • UPN
  • ONID Email
  • Exchange Email
Username and UPN
Exchange and ONID emails

That’s all folks!

Walk Up Forms Update

Walk up forms will receive an update today after 7 PM. This is the first real update in two and a half years!

Hardware Agreement Form

Three new fields are added to the Hardware Agreement form, under the section labeled Specify your System’s Information. They are make, model, and operating system. They are required fields.

Make, Model, and Operating System are required fields.

A reference to Windows Vista is removed.
