New Core Migration: Space Grant & Disability Access Services

Last Thursday night Space Grant and Disability Access Services were moved to the new core.

[>>> Space Grant <<<]

Cyder/IP change
All workstations and printers…
Moved from: zone.ads-fn (Multiple ranges)
Moved to: zone.cn_irs (10.130.68.31 – 10.130.68.253)

Printer change

Old IP printers were removed from workstations and replaced with new print queues:

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-092-HP-Color-LaserJet-M451DN
Printer IP: 10.130.68.34
Printer driver: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v6.0.0)
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 092 HP Color LaserJet M451DN

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-092-Ricoh-MP-3351
Printer IP: 10.130.68.33
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 092 Ricoh MP 3351

ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Space Grant
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Space Grant

Resolved Issues

  • The VLAN hadn’t been trunked to the appropriate floor switch so nobody could pull an IP address.
  • The firewall hadn’t been configured properly so once folks did pull an IP address, nobody could communicate outside of OSU.

Unresolved Issues
The HP printer model should be listed as M551DN, not M451DN. This will be fixed at a later date.

[>>> Disability Access Services <<<]

Cyder/IP change
All workstations and printers…
Moved from: zone.ads-fn (Multiple ranges)
Moved to: zone.cn_studentadmin (10.214.18.56 – 10.214.19.253)

Printer change

Old IP printers were removed from workstations and replaced with new print queues:

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-200-Ricoh-MP-C2051
Printer IP: 10.214.18.146
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 200 Ricoh MP C2051

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-200-Ricoh-MP-3351
Printer IP: 10.214.18.145
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 200 Ricoh MP 3351

ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Disability Access Services
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Disability Access Services

Resolved Issues

  • Numerous hosts weren’t included in the move as they weren’t documented during the initial walk-through and weren’t on our domain or even listed as supported. I had Mike Akey do a bulk add in Cyder for these.
  • The ACLs on the Ricoh 3351 weren’t configured properly so ISCS-PrintQ couldn’t send jobs to it. Ben got this squared away.
  • Juliana Recio’s computer wasn’t pulling an IP but we got her working on her second network port.
  • Student Conduct has a few folks housed in the same area and needed access to the same printers. These individuals were added to the printer security groups and I added the printer GPO to their users OU.

Unresolved Issues
Kiosks and student testing workstations aren’t properly being managed. Currently Alex Axelsson is managing the testing workstations which has led to some shadow IT in this department. This has been noted and will be reviewed at a later time.

New Core Migration: Career Services

Wednesday night Career Services was moved to the new core.

Cyder/IP change
All workstations and printers…
Moved from: zone.ads-fn (128.193.19.61 – 128.193.19.112)
Moved to: zone.cn_studentadmin (10.214.18.56 – 10.214.19.253)

Printer change

Old IP printers were removed from workstations and replaced with new print queues:

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-008-Ricoh-MP-3351
Printer IP: 10.214.18.130
Printer driver: PCL6 Universal v4.6
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 008 Ricoh MP 3351
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Career Services
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Career Services

Printer address: \\iscs-printq\KAd-008-HP-Color-LaserJet-M551N
Printer IP: 10.214.18.131
Printer driver: HP Universal Printing PCL 6 (v6.0.0)
Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 008 HP Color LaserJet M551N
ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Career Services
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Career Services

Resolved Issues

  • The HP printer was hard-coded so wasn’t getting an IP, switched to DHCP.
  • Student Conduct needed access to Career Services printers. Resolved by adding them to the above security groups and applying the GPO to their users OU.

Unresolved Issues
Kiosks aren’t secure and aren’t properly being managed. This has been noted and will be reviewed at a later time.

Apple build process update!

Upon updating the documentation for phasing out deploy studio I realized just how much time deploy studio actually saves us. So we will continue using it and with the current build process. One minor adjustment is the standard image is now Yosemite, not Mavericks.

I have plugged deploy studio back in and am changing the cyder entry now. So expect it to be up and running…. Sometime later today.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

Cheers,

-CJ
