Child maltreatment is a destructive societal problem that has widespread and lifelong consequences, costs billions every year, increases during times of stress and economic hardship, and is preventable.
A focus on child maltreatment is timely for several reasons including the direct and indirect impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Research has shown that abuse and neglect tend to increase during periods of economic hardship and additional stress.
As a land grant institution, OSU can play an important role in child maltreatment prevention.
Therefore, this project focuses on child maltreatment prevention, starting at OSU-Cascades. Oregon State University researchers are currently collaborating with KIDS Center to offer OSU-Cascades’ students, faculty, and staff an evidence-informed child abuse prevention training called Stewards of Children Darkness to Light.
If you are interested in getting the cost of training covered, register for one of the upcoming trainings below using your OSU email address.
