The ADHFP is a joint project between Oregon State University, University of California Santa Cruz, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Initial testing is scheduled for June of 2022 aboard RV Sally Ride. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system will consist of a weight stand, a strength member, an electronics package, and an option for either a 3.5- or 6-m oil-filled thermistor tube. The probe will measure heat flux in seafloor sediment. It will make multiple penetrations over a single 48-hour submersion operating in depths up to 6,000 meters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select data will be transmitted to the surface via an Ultra-Short Baseline (USBL) system that will also precisely locate heat flow determinations.
