Without much guidance probably wouldn’t have gone to collage and instead would have become an auto mechanic or something. I ended up picking mechanical engineering as my first major. At that point I thought I really didn’t like computers because of all the head ache I would encounter trying to install things and having them not work. I went down the mechanical engineering path for a while and discovered that I really liked making things that could move. I got into robotics and found that this really involved a lot of programming if you wanted to make things interesting. As I grew to like programming more I decided I should go back and get a computer science degree. I liked that OSU offered a post bacc and it was online, so I ended up signing up for the program. At the time I was working at Boeing as a Mechanical Engineer which was ok, but I knew I could make more money in software. I hadn’t planned on switching companies until I was close to done with the degree, but early on in the degree Boeing started asking me to help in the factor on some third shifts. Every night I would walk in telling myself I wasn’t being paid enough to do put up with this, so I studied Leetcode really hard and switched to a programming job in Boeing after finishing 162. I knew that job was just a stepping stone as Boeing isn’t really a software company, so I kept applying and was able to get a Job at Microsoft after finishing Data Structures. I have been working there for 2.5 years now and really enjoy it. I hope to keep growing my skills after this program and hopefully one day I will be able to be a technical lead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
When I was younger I really liked fixing things and building things, but never had much interest in school.
