Hello and welcome back to my blog! It’s been a few weeks now and the quarter is in full swing so I just wanted to take some time to update you on the progress of my Capstone project.

First off, we finally got assigned our project topic and team members. I am thrilled to have been placed in this group because I can tell that my two team mates are extremely motivated and knowledgeable. I have got to know them a bit more and we have each decided which part of the project we will be working on based on our skillset. My task is to design and code the front end application while another partner will work on the API architecture and the other will work on the database design and SQL queries.

Our project topic is a travel planning app where users can create an account and plan trips using a database of curated experiences. Essentially we are building a web based CRUD application which is great because I have a ton of experience working on such projects. As the front end developer, my job will be to handle the client facing portion of the application. We are planning on using React as our framework and integrating technologies such as Redux for state management, Google Places API to generate experiences, Mapbox for displaying experience locations, and much much more.

So far we have already laid out the API request and response schema for all endpoints which will allow us to seamlessly link the client, API and database. The next step on my part is to design the application in either Figma or Adobe XD and pass it along to the team for approval. I am both excited and nervous for this task since I haven’t had to design such a complex project from scratch before. Luckily I have lots of reference material to draw on which will make my job somewhat easier, but the sheer amount of screens to be created is still very daunting!

I think I will leave things at that for now. I am very please with how this quarter has gone thus far and I hope our team can keep up the momentum going forward. Thank you for reading and until next time!
