Week 7 Questions
Nice to see you here!
My OSU CS 467 Capstone project recently passed the half-way mark of the term, and I am thrilled to see the light at the end of our adventure shining brightly. Our malware analysis team has successfully examined three pieces of malware so far, and we are currently in the process of creating our Project Poster and Final Archive for the Career Showcase event at the end of the term. Alongside our technical progress, I wanted to share Blog Post #4, where I discuss some strategies that helped me stay on track according to our group’s agreed upon Project Plan. While this post may not be as technical as the previous ones, it offers valuable strategies to consider for future endeavors. I hope you enjoy reading it!
How do you work through being “stuck” on a problem?
When I am ‘stuck’ on a problem, my first approach is to conduct thorough research. I carefully re-read any relevant texts or materials associated with the issue at hand. I start practicing the application of the process once again, from the beginning, and proceed methodically, even if it becomes frustrating. This strategy allows me to identify any mistakes or incorrect steps that may have led to my initial roadblock. If said strategy is not sufficient, and I’ve exhausted all available resources, I then turn to my colleagues for assistance. If I still find myself stuck, I seek help from my instructor or individuals with more experience by engaging in forums or similar platforms.
How do you approach learning something new, like a new technology?
Learning a new technology begins by understanding its purpose and objectives. I begin by examining the technology’s documentation and familiarizing myself with its features and functionalities. To make the execution as smooth as possible, I set up the necessary environment, whether it involves configuring a web browser with an internet connection, setting up an integrated development environment (IDE), or creating a virtual machine.
Once the environment is ready, I immerse myself in hands-on experimentation with the technology, applying it in practical scenarios based on my previous experience.During this process, if any problems or questions arise, I refer back to the documentation and use online resources to seek guidance. Additionally, I find it valuable to read postings or engage with the technology’s community forums, which enables me to connect with fellow learners and experts. By exchanging knowledge and insights I save time and effort in the long run that I can instead put into smooth execution of the new technology.
Do you use ChatGPT or other AI tools? In what way?
Yes! I thoroughly enjoy using ChatGPT and other AI tools. One way I find them particularly useful is by asking general questions to gather background information on various topics. For example, when learning to code in Python, I might inquire about the advantages and disadvantages of using Python or ask about what makes Python a programming language of choice amongst new coders. ChatGPT is also useful for spell-checking, grammar correction, and brainstorming.
Among the AI tools, I especially appreciate MidJourney, a text-based image creator. In fact, I have employed MidJourney to generate numerous captivating images for my Capstone 467 blog posts! As I continue to familiarize myself with these technologies, their potential is becoming increasingly inspiring. It’s worth mentioning that ChatGPT and other AI tools have only become accessible for use in recent years. Thus, 2023 marks the year of my introduction to the realm of the AI-driven imagination.
