Beneficial Training:
One beneficial training that I have experienced was at Starbucks. This was one of my first real jobs and they have a very well-developed training program for all of their new hires. This program is set up to follow a specific formula of self-paces videos, quizzes, and then 1-1 training with new coworkers. Being able to practice the new material that you learned was something that I found very helpful in learning and implementing the material long term. Every week we would check in and have an evaluation time with the manager of that store. This is something that I found very helpful in learning the new material. This was the best and most thorough training program that I have experienced.
Detrimental Training:
I have experienced many different attempts at training that have been much less beneficial than the one that I described earlier. One example is the training I received at my very first job. We had initial mandatory safety videos. These were played for about four hours straight in a room with other new hires. After that we got a walkthrough of the lab and were set off to clean. The first week or so of the new job was asking questions and trial by error. I never got to a place of comfort or confidence at this job, and I did not last there for very long. I think that this program was unsuccessful because it was not well linked to bettering the job or connecting managers and employees.
