The company that I have chosen to work for is Wegmans Food Markets. I spent a brief while living in Rochester, New York. During this time I had frequent wonderful experiences at Wegmans. When I saw that this was third on the list of best places to work for by Fortune 500, I knew that I needed to seriously consider this option. Here 90% of employees say that this is a great place to work (Working at Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. | Great Place To Work). As Human Resources, I would want to step into my role with a focus on maintaining this legacy. My overall focus would be on creating a lasting environment where employees continue to feel important, valued, and respected. From my time in NY I remember there being great education and internal promotion programs available to employees. In taking on this position I would want to be sure that we not only keep these programs, but we build off of them and create more opportunities to further our employees and give back to the community. A potential challenge I see in this area is navigating a growing budget. With these wonderful programs and resources, also accompanies a rather large budget. Any guidance from my supervisors would help me to manage this. This would likely be something that as a management team we could pre-determine and learn to include. Overall I think that Wegmans is a place where I would feel appreciated, supported, and like I am making a positive difference.
