Effectiveness of job interview

Effective Interview

When I was looking for my internship I had to be interviewed for the position because there was a couple other candidates wanting the internship position. I studied for the interview using the STAR which stands situation, task, action, and result. If I didn’t study for the interview, and understanding why I want to have my internship there. This was quite useful because I was able to use this as practice for when I am applying for jobs. I was able to answer these questions with confidence and why I would be a great fit. I was going through a very structured based interview because my interviewer was asking me behavioral questions, and what I would do in different situations.

Non-Effective Interview

While I was in the interview for the internship position for the clinic I was asked some leading questions. Some of them were “what do you know about this company.” I felt that if I didn’t answer this question correctly my interview already had the answer in her mind of how I was asked. I think leading question can already create a bias while in the interview, and it goes back to our lesson from this week from class. Leading questions can be misleading and very useless to understand the person. In this situation I didn’t know very much of the company, and the only thing I knew about it was the mission statement, values, and why I wanted to work there. I didn’t know anything else, and I felt that when I gave my answer she gave some facial expressions that made me think I was saying the wrong thing. I think that is something I would give them advice make sure the person interviewing is writing down the answers, and is not making facials expression when the person is giving the answer to the question. Another interview I can think of the time was I sat down, and he looked at my resume and goes you have experience playing golf, and didn’t ask me what I bring to the team. Just that I had experience playing golf, and I said yes I played golf in high school. He goes your hired, and when can we start. It was the shortness interview and they didn’t want to know my personality or why I wanted to work there. It didn’t help me in the interview or did it help them because they weren’t asking me questions.

What to look for when hiring

Reliability when looking for a person to work you want someone to depend on, and that you can trust. Validity is being tested in a situation, and tell you if the choice is valid or not. Utility is the skills and answer from the test will be an asset to the company.

Advice

  • Make the job more appealing for the job description, and promote it better online
