How did I get here?

Hello everyone my name is Jacob Anderson and I am finishing up the post-bacc program this quarter. I originally graduated from UCSD in summer 2017 with a degree in Physiology and Neuroscience, eager to begin studying for the MCAT and pursue a life of medicine. Well, that didn’t quite work out the way I had imagined. At the time I had committed 8+ hours a day to study for the MCAT as well as working in a school district as a long-term substitute teacher and at a restaurant as a bartender. Needless to say, I burnt out fast. Not really sure of the next steps to take towards a career I decided to dive into both jobs and work as much as I could in the meantime.

Fast forward about 6 months, right around Christmas time a good friend of mine from undergrad reached out to see where I was at and how I was doing with studying. After breaking the news to him about deciding to no longer pursue medicine he introduced me to computer science. It first started with some introductory material with Codecademy and then he started telling me about his experiences thus far. I became instantly hooked, comp sci felt like a puzzle to me waiting to be solved. After some searching around I decided to apply to OSU’s post-bacc program to get the best education possible for computer science.

That pretty much leads me to here and this blog. Over the course of this program, I have been fortunate enough to work on a few projects to add to my portfolio, a few of those opportunities from that same friend who first introduced me to computer science as well. So I definitely owe him a nice dinner once I start this next chapter of my life since he is the one directly responsible for setting me on this path. Thanks, Brandon!
