Hello everybody and welcome to the first in my series of blog posts for CS 467 Capstone! I’m very excited to be nearing the end of the program and am looking forward to creating something really awesome in this class.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sean and I live in Columbus, Ohio with my wife and our two dachshunds, Minnie and Toby. I currently work full-time for an engineering and surveying company out of Tennessee managing our LiDAR extraction department. We basically virtually map construction sites and roads using drones and laser scanners.
My first bachelors degree was in Digital Media with a concentration in Game Design. I originally wanted to be a game artist but life events and the harsh working reputation of the games industry kept me from pursuing that dream. I still wanted to find a career that allowed me to work with technology and use my creativity so I decided I would go back to school for Computer Science, which would allow me a wider range of job opportunities.
In a shocking twist, I chose mostly game projects in the project survey, since I have experience making and designing games already. During this project, I hope to gain experience with designing and coding a game, as I mostly handled art assets during my first time through school. I also hope to get experience working through a project and as part of a development team, as I believe you can never get too much experience doing team work.
I’m of course nervous about working in a group, as the whole college experience here at the OSU eCampus has been largely a solo and secluded effort. There is also the challenge of navigating different time zones, different schedules, and anything else that might impact the ability of the team to communicate.
