It was much easier for me to list out diseases that are influenced by our microbiota. I also feel more confident in what the microbiota is. Before this class, I was aware that we each have our own microbiome but I did not understand the makeup and influence of it. I learned there are different compositions on different body sites. I think this was one of the more interesting facts I learned. I think it would be interesting to look into how our skin microbiome impacts the aging of the skin, acne, and complexion overall. In writing exercise 1 I had no knowledge of the influences or correlations between diseases and microbiota health. I would have not known that there is research transplanting the gut microbiota from a lean individual into an obese individual much less that there is evidence this can improve the health of the obese individual. I will be much more aware of how important my microbiota health is and how I can eat and have healthy behaviors that will promote the stability and diversity of my microbiome.
