My significant other works longer hours and puts his body through harder laborer-type work for better pay during the end of spring into early fall months to ensure that his year-round pay makes it more “worth it”. The type of job he does is contracted through the state and also private jobs. The state jobs are typically contracted in more of a stipend-type fashion on top of hourly, which ultimately pays the crew more an hour versus the private jobs. These may cause travel out of town for a night or two, but again, the compensation overpowers the “need” to work and come home every night. Higher paychecks reflect the more hours worked, especially on contracted jobs. This motivated the behavior of putting in whatever hours, regardless of the pain it may cause physically, and the location of where these jobs are. Trust and overcommunication within the relationship happen to maintain the overall need of paying our bills and having a little bit of “fun” money throughout these months.
