Family & friends watch as faculty and graduates prepare for graduation
On Friday, June 12, 2015, OSU|OHSU College of Pharmacy conferred 84 Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degrees, 5 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, and 1 Master of Science (MS) degree. Additionally, 3 of the graduating students, Grace Berczel, Daniel McCain, and Thomas Nguyen, were recognized as the first dual degree PharmD/MBA graduates of the college. In an additional note, our first two pharmacy alumni, Kevin Russell (’93) and Sara Kelley (’13), have earned their Master of Business Administration from Oregon State University.
Dean Mark Zabriskie opened the ceremony by addressing the graduates and guests. He began by offering interesting facts about this class, including the average age (28), percentage of male versus female (39% versus 61%, respectively), and the percentage of Oregon residents (82%). Additionally, it is notable that 28 graduates will continue their professional development by pursuing postgraduate training in the form of a pharmacy residency.Class President, Cassandra Dotson (’15) addressed the 82 graduates in attendance. She reminded them of the important steps that they took to get this far. She highlighted that their continued efforts to strive for their dreams and goals would open the door to the next chapter in their careers.
Oregon State University President Edward Ray and College of Business Dean Ilene Kleinsorge honored the graduates with inspiring speeches. President Ray spoke about the graduates entering the pharmacy profession as leaders and partners of a diverse healthcare team. Dean Kleinsorge emphasized the important relationship between the College of Pharmacy and the College of Business; together striving to provide the highest level of education. Oregon Health & Science University Provost and Executive Vice President Jeanette Mladenovic, was unable to join us for the ceremonies, but sent her deepest congratulations to our graduates.

While all graduates were celebrated during the graduation ceremony, a few exceptional students were recognized for their outstanding work over the last four years. Drs. Dave Bearden, Mark Leid (’90) and Theresa Filtz presented the following 11 students with 8 distinguished awards for the work they have accomplished in the classroom, clinics, and community:

He encouraged them to continue their relationship with the college by attending continuing education programs, connecting with the college for events, networking, and professional development, as well as attending Homecoming, reunions and to cheer on the Beavers.
After the ceremony, graduates reunited with their friends and families outside LaSells Stewart Center for a dessert reception sponsored by long-standing OSU Pharmacy Partner, Fred Meyer.
