Each year, the OHSU/OSU educational programs organize an annual Health Care Equality Week fair. The week long fair is designed to raise awareness about disparities in the U.S. health care system and provide services to homeless and uninsured populations. This year’s event will take place in April 2014, where students will offer services to people attending.
This year, P3 student, Alexandru Cioara took charge of the immunization part of the event and decided to offer an event during the times the flu virus is most active. Students partnered with Potluck in the Park, an organization that serves free hot meals to anyone in need every Sunday at O’Bryant Square in downtown Portland. Potluck in the Park is run entirely by volunteers and generous donors. On January 12, pharmacy students joined the volunteers and donors to immunized 34 patients with the influenza vaccine. The immunizations where provided by Immunize Oregon.
