Week 10 – Most Important Thing I Have Learned

I think the most interesting concept that I have learned over the course of this term was the process of completing a job analysis and the importance of it. Completing a job analysis is a far more complicated process then I would have initially thought prior to taking this course. In reality completing a job analysis is a multi-step process that requires breaking the job down in to multiple subsections and gathering data about each subsection. The process can involve interviewing people that perform the job to get a better idea of all responsibilities of the position. Then all the information has to get compiled and sorted to determine what are the most important responsible of the position. Additionally, it must be determined what skills and characteristics are necessary in an individual to complete the responsibilities of the job. Lastly, all of this is combined to create a description of the job that can be used for many reasons, most notably job advertisements.

Another concept I found very interesting was the different test that can be used during an interview to better determine if a candidate would be a good fit for the position. While many of these tests are not one hundred percent accurate in determining a persons ability to be effective in a position, they area great why to go beyond the basic interview question to gain a deeper understanding of the individual.

Hi Sydney, I also talked a lot about the job analysis and job description for my most important thing I learned. I don’t think I touched on testing in mine and your post reminded me how important that it as well. None of the options are 100% going to give you what you want because of the various factors that make up testing, but being able to select a test or multiple tests that get you as close as possible to your goal is what is vital to helping you make good hiring decisions.

    Hi Sydney,

The job analysis module was great. It made me think on a much different level about my own job and the jobs of those who report to me. Taking a microscope to the day to day tasks and responsibilities of a particular position really does help you understand it – and understand who would be great at it.
