Week 4 Critiquing a Recruitment Ad

When I think of myself as a brand that I want to promote myself as is hardworking and quick to learn. I think these two things are the most important to me to make sure and employer knows about me, This will be especially important as I move in the the corporate world after college, it will be important to me to make sure that while I might not be the most experienced being a recent college graduate but that my work ethic, eagerness to learn and grow within a company make me a valuable employee. The main weakness I have, apart from less experience then other applicants, is in leadership settings I am not an assertive leader all the time, I can when needed but I am not are authoritative leader. In my experience this can be seen as a weakness by some of my higher up managers but I have also worked with others that have a similar style and it so less so. Overall I think it varies based on what the company needs and values in their employees.

If I was to create a novel and creative situation wanted ad, I want to make my personally and values known as I have enjoyed working for companies in the past that align with these. As I said above making sure that my work ethic and desire to learn and grow with a company would be my main statement. Beyond this I am a positive employee, I am a strong leader that is good at motivating and training individuals. While I make lack experience doing certain things I think that these factors and a eagerness to learn makes me a strong candidate.

    Hi Sydney,
Being willing to learn as well as being a fast learner is something that I’ve heard a lot of employers talk about. They want people that they can train to do things their way. I’m also not very assertive, but it’s not always a weakness. Finding an organization with a similar leadership style (maybe transformational leadership?) would be a great way to negate this as a negative.

Hi Sydney, we chose very similar ways of making a brand for ourselves. I made the same point of how important it will be to advertise myself as quick learner since I won’t have much experience outside of college when I graduate. I think that’s great that you followed it up with being hardworking. Being a great learner doesn’t mean much if you don’t have the work ethic to follow through on a job after you have learned how to do it. Having both as an asset definitely makes you stand out more.

    Hello!
Adaptability and quick learning are great skills to have in any industry, especially when looking for a prospective employer. Presenting your values will also help you align personal objectives with those of a larger organization. Businesses want employees to stay long-term, advancing their career growth through their company and work ethic, as you mentioned. Great post and have a good one!

    Hi Sydney,
I think its okay that you aren’t an authoritative leader all the time, it makes for a well rounded individual to carry and be able to use different leadership styles. I too am in the same boat as you in terms of wanting to show prospective employers that I am hard working, but I like that you added the quick to learn portion. This is so important in our world, because the faster you can learn to do something, the less replaceable you are (more job security). Thanks for the quality post!
