Kurt Spokas is a Research Soil Scientist at St. Paul, Minnesota.He is recognized worldwide for his research in soil gas emissions,computer model development, as well as biochar and agrochemical impacts on agricultural systems. . His research contributes to the USDA-ARS GRACEnet program and he is one of the key scientists driving USDA-ARS biochar research efforts.

Claire Phillips is a Research Soil Scientist (Post-doctoral) at the USDA ARS Forage Seed and Cereal Research Unit in Corvallis, Oregon. Her interests include soil biogeochemistry, soil water and energy fluxes, and system analysis of biochar production and use.

Tom Miles is the Executive Director of the US Biochar Initiative. He is technical and engineering consultant and is based in Portland, Oregon.
