Applicant Experience

Unfortunately, I cannot say that I have had any job that would classify higher than a “summer job”. I have not had any internships, but I have had a job every year since I was 15 years old working at a curly willow farm.

The last job I applied for was Tualatin Valley Water District up here in Beaverton, Oregon. I have had this job for two summers in a row, so my last application and interview experience was actually just about two years ago during the spring of my Sophomore year. Although it was just a position for summer maintenance, the application, hiring, and interview process were quite interesting, and I was able to learn a lot through it.

The application process was a bit easier for me because I was able to put down multiple references that essentially sealed me the interview. This company actually did a very good job at keeping the interview process very professional and it seemed as if the interview process would be the same for a more “professional position”. I was attending school during the time of my interview, so they allowed me to do the interview over the phone which made me a lot less stressed out. Again, I’m sure they only allowed this because it was only for a summer position.

However, the actual interview was quite intimidating as when I picked up the phone there were three different people who introduced themselves to me and let me know that they would all be asking questions. They all took turns asking questions and it made it seem much more prepared and professional. However, I was also very prepared and just about instantly after the interview I was offered the job.
