When it comes to a company’s success and what makes it a great place to work, I beleive it’s not only about pay and benefits but also about whether organizations, leaders, and teams align with the values and culture that make people feel both valued and motivated. In this post, I will share why American Express, NVIDIA, Deloitte, and Farmers Insurance are great places to work.
With 97% of employees saying American Express is a great place to work, it stands out from the pack. The company’s commitment to employee well-being and work-life balance resonates with its staff. Strong benefits and opportunities for professional growth empower employees and are key elements of the company’s organizational culture. This relates to the strategic HRM idea of matching HR practices with the organization’s purpose and values (creating an environment where employees feel engaged and supported).
NVIDIA
NVIDIA is not far behind with 98% employee satisfaction. The company’s success is attributed to encouraging employee recognition and career development. This example clearly illustrates how the choice of HRM can result in the ability of a company to develop an innovative culture which creates a competitive advantage. This is similar to the concept of HRM with corporate strategy, where HR is utilized as a driver for achieving the organization’s strategic goals over the long-term.
Deloitte
Deloitte has a 93% satisfaction rate when it comes to employees. The organization provides plenty of learning and development opportunities and has a culture of employee engagement. This goes very well in line with the objective around strategic HRM about developing a good organization culture and investing in employee development, as it is critical to building competitive advantage and aligning towards the strategic objectives of the company.
Farmers Insurance
Farmers Insurance has 80% of employees saying it’s a great place to work, where the company focuses on employee collaboration and inclusive culture. This is consistent with the concept that people are important and organizational culture matters. I beleive this to be a key lesson in understanding how HR can influence overall organizational values.
When talking about the kind of manager I aspire to be, from what I have learned — I see HR almost as a glue in a sense that ties the people’s goals with the company’s overall mission. One challenge that I might face is finding the balance in terms of individuality and membership throughout the organization. However, I feel these are the areas of human resource practices that help maintain a strong workplace overall and that are common challenges nearly everyone would face initially.
