Quality HR practices are what keep a business successful and thriving. There are hundreds of examples of successful HR practices, a handful of them are listed in Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For 2020 using Great Place to Work data. From this list, there are companies I have been a dedicated customer of, because of the amazing atmosphere created by the companies. A great example is CarMax. CarMax is number twenty on Fortune’s list. According to data, CarMax has an eighty-three percent approval rate among employees versus the fifty-seven percent average. Anecdotally, my family has worked with CarMax to sell multiple vehicles. Every experience we’ve had from first interest to final sale has been welcoming, informative, and transparent. I think this is a great example of good HR practices building a successful work culture that benefits both employees and customers. Another company that I have been a dedicated customer of is Experian. Like CarMax, they have a high approval rating among employees at ninety percent. Experian seems to have strong values in place that ensure honesty to its users and transparency among its employees. The last company I looked at was Delta Airlines, with an employee approval rate of eighty-seven percent. I always try to book flights through Delta because of the superb customer experience I’ve experienced from the company employees. During my first flight as a young mom of two, I was so anxious about juggling my two kids and my baby crying. A lovely flight attendant took my fussy toddler and cradled her down the plane aisle so I could successfully feed my infant. The kindness of the Delta staff seems to be among the company’s ethics.
I want to be a leader that encourages dedicated consumerism because of the values and ethics put into place by successful HR practices. To achieve this goal, functional areas like managing the health & safety of employees and training and development need to be a priority. When a team is taken care of they tend to care for others. To be a successful manager means to treat employees with respect and kindness, and this behavior will be repeated between employees and consumers. Differences in culture and perspective could make this more difficult a task. Enforcing additional training for the benefit of company culture could also be a hard sale.
