In my work history I’ve had very effective interview and one ineffective interview. My effective interview was for a position at a hospital in the mother baby care unit. That interview was effective for many reasons. My interviewer made sure to build rapport with me by communicating via email and calling to confirm our interview. This made me feel that the unit managerial staff was relaible, and that I was welcomed into the team. If I could improve the effectiveness of their interviewing I would suggest that they email a list of clothing guidelines beforehand. I felt confident in my business casual outfit, in no way was it inappropriate, but the interviewers commented that my clothing was “too youthful” and a more formal outfit would be appropriate outside of working hours.
The most ineffectice interview I’ve been a part of was for a restaurant job after I graduated high school. I had no work experience and it was an entry level postion. I was a walk in hire, there was no formal interview and the information I did receive was limited and unclear. I was asked to come back the same night to train as the restaurant hostess. I was told to wear a dress or slacks but I was not told that it had to be a black dress or black slacks, neither of which I owned at the time. I was also not told that closed toed, nonslip shoes were required, which I also did not own at the time. This seems like basic knowledge for the restauraunt world but at the time I had no experience or understanding of the job requirements. This continued throughout my positon. There was little guidance from my managerial staff which caused confusion and made me feel invalid in my position. I was at the restaurant for only six months before moving onto work with a more supportive company. There are many ays that this situation could be more effective, I think the most improtant thing is to “try identifying goals ahead of time and writing questions that will reveal the most important details about new hires” (Indeed).
