Personality Tests – Predicting Your Past & Future

Have you ever taken a personality test? What about a stress test? I recently took a life stress inventory, a personality type test, and a stress management skills test. The responses from these tests not only told me what had been going well in the present, but also what I was lacking in stress management, and making up for in, you guessed it, more stress. The Holmes-Rafe Stress Inventory tested the amount of stressful situations in my day to day life, and the Coping and Stress Management Skills Test from Phycology Today told me I’m not great at managing that stress. Additionally, Psychology Today’s Type A Personality Test also informed me that I’m at risk of type A personality behaviors such as irritability, which increase the risk of coronary heart disease.

If most employees are over stressed, what can they do to distress, or cope with their everyday stressors? People with stress can learn new and improved coping mechanisms for their stress, including keeping calm in the moment through stressors as they occur using breathing techniques, as well as create processes in their lives to remove as much stress as possible, such as joining a gym. Many businesses include benefits such as gym memberships, health insurance, and paid time off to assist employees in lowering their stress. Keep this in mind when considering benefits packages, or selection and retention of employees.
