I’m actually pretty excited to be writing a blog for class! I have read friend’s and public blogs and have always wondered if it is really diffcult to create. For me, online learning is really not only my best option at this point, but my only option. As a busy mom of three school-aged childen, wife to a hubby who works full-time, employee who works part-time, as well as my many other roles, being able to drive to a campus at a designated time and fit all my needed courses into the time my children are in school (and I’m not working, and nobody has any appts…) would just be impossible! Without a doubt, time-management and organization are my biggest challenges, but I appreciate that I also have some “positives” working on my behalf as well:)  I truly value the ability to work on my class work early in the morning before my kiddos are awake, during school hours, or even at night. It makes it possible for me to find times that work best for me (when it is quiet and I can focus) and my family:) The format of my online classes is also beneficial when it comes to my learning style…  I am not only reading assigned texts, but have online “lectures”, even online “tours” for one of my classes! I’m able to re-play lectures that were complicated, take or print notes, post questions for teachers and classmates (which seems easier onlne that in-class!), and more! I’m excited to finally be going back to school and working toward a goal I’ve wanted to accomplish for as long as I can remember!

  1. What is your goal?

All of the online positives you listed I would have to agree on. It is more time-consuming, but I find myself not hating staying up late to get work done after the family is in bed because I don’t have to consider getting ready to get to a class the next day. Sure, there are things to do in the mornings, but on the days I don’t work I can do it all in my pj’s! 🙂

  2. My goal at OSU is to earn by Bachelor’s degree – which will be in liberal arts with a pre-ed specialization. Then, I plan to earn my Masters in Elementary Ed so I can be a teacher:)

  3. Good for you, Stacey. You seem to have a great outlook and a realistic take on what this learning environment offers as well as presents as challenges. I just want to clarify one thing, though: you get up BEFORE your kids wake up and work?!? You are Super Mom.

    No doubt!

  4. I have most definately noticed that most recipes I find online or cute crafty ideas from Pinterest are all from Blogs! I have considered writing a blog before – after all, my thoughts all seem pretty witty and interesting in my head! However, I doubt that the reality of my life is nearly interesting enough for anyone else to want to read about it:)
I am more used to the discussion board forum in my online classes, as this is my first experience with blogs in my education. I like that the discussion board posts tend to be really focused, and maybe even a bit shorter. I find, however, that the blog environment seems a bit more “casual”, and I don’t stress as much about what I’m going to write.
Because the blog idea is new, I don’t remember to check this area as often as I check the discussion board, but I think that it is certainly something that I’ll adjust to! It seems to me that since blogs do seem more personal and casual, they allow for content that may be more meaningful to our own everyday lives, whereas the discussion board is much more focused on certain academic topics.
Maybe some day, I’ll have enough coffee, free time and witty ideas to start my own personal blog… I’ll be sure to keep you posted:)
