Compensation Management – Week 1

This past summer I accepted an offer and worked as an intern for one of the big four accounting firms, Ernst & Young. This internship was a pretty easy offer to accept as they paid very well at about twice what minimum wage is currently. My career goal is to be an accountant and get my CPA after graduation, so interning at EY was an easy choice. Although it was a very high demanding internship that was challenging, the company made up for it through intern socials, happy hours, and additional gifts throughout the summer.

At the end of the internship, I was offered a full time position to work at EY beginning in the fall of 2022. When I first received my offer, I was already pretty sure I was going to accept it. A large part was due to the fact that I want to pursue a career in accounting, but what made me so willing to accept was all of the benefits and compensation that comes along with a job there. For example, they have unlimited vacation days, well-being funds, and employee discounts to various companies. Overall, I would say that when it came down to deciding where I wanted to work, the compensation did play a pretty big role helping me make my decision.
