Zhou Qunfei

I’ve decided to do my cultural research project on the richest woman in China, Zhou Qunfei. She is the founder of Lens Technology which provides touchscreen technology for smartphones and other electronics.

She has a very extraordinary story of being born very poor in China and working extremely hard to get an education and make money. She worked in factories near her university so that she could work and go to school. Her first company was established in 1993 with her savings of around $2,000 USD.

I had initially picked another woman for my topic, but am glad I found Zhou Qunfei instead. I wanted to find a Chinese woman to do my project on since I am half Chinese and am always eager to learn about prominent Chinese women. Sexism is prominent in Chinese culture, so the story of a woman making her own success from nothing is incredible.

Interviewing her would be next to impossible. She is alive, but she is, as I mentioned, the richest woman in China. She’s busy with her company and also, she doesn’t speak English. I would be open to trying to find a method of communication to contact her, but it seems unlikely that an opportunity would present itself.

Regardless, I am so looking forward to researching her further.

RSS Feed

Setting up the RSS feed was really cool! I had no idea how to do that before and it’s exciting to know how for future reference. I feel like my blog is looking more and more professional and interesting.

Week Two

It’s been a good week. The blog setup is coming along and I like how it turned out overall. Adding categories was confusing but I figured it out. I also liked picking out a theme. I like the setup of the theme I chose, but I’m not crazy about the displayed photos at the header, so I may try to change those. Overall, I consider it a successful week with the work in this class. Now I’m excited to dive into more interesting work!

Week 1 Post

  1. The setup experience so far has been rather tricky! I’m not familiar with WordPress at all, so I’m a little confused at every turn, but hoping I’m doing it correctly. In the past, I’ve only ever used blogger or tumblr for any sort of blogging. WordPress is a whole new world!
  2. Setting up an email signature is something I know how to do, but had never really done before. I’m simply come across the option when exploring email settings.
  3. I’m not a fan of text-to-speech at all. On my iPhone, it always pronounces things in a weird way (but it’s also really funny sometimes). Plus it doesn’t really help me absorb information better than I would if I were reading it. I think it’s an excellent feature though for people who need to hear things read to them. I like that it’s an option.
