Progress Report Week 1 – AI Coder
This week we mostly focused on setting up our project guidelines and frameworks that will guide us over the coming weeks and provide a goal to achieve. Our team setup the Github repository, Discord server, Asana group, Team Standards and Project Plan. Setting up the supporting tech (Github, Discord, Asana) was straightforward and almost everyone on our team agreed on using these technologies for version control, communication and planning by default. For the Project Plan document we had more of an opportunity to use AI’s help.
First, before getting into the AI use case, the Team Standards document we completed was intuitive. We had complete agreement on the type of communication we wanted (asynchronous with discord), tech stack (next.js, flask, SQL database), repo (github) and project goals. Everyone was on the same page which was great.
Now for the AI use case portion, coding and project planning. One thing I used AI on was coming up with the wireframes for our project. I used ChatGPT 4 which is integrated with DaLLE image generating AI. I wrote a prompt describing the features of our homepage and told it to generate the website wireframe. And… the result was terrible.
It had no resemblance to a classic wireframe. Some of the concepts I asked were included but it was pretty far off what I wanted. So I ended up having to manually create the wireframe on Figma. I think a better use case for DaLLE would be icon generation for our site, so in the future I will try experimenting with that.
In addition, I plan on using AI (whether ChatGPT or another) to create skeleton code once I get started on the app itself. Potentially, I will experiment with debugging and asking design questions. I’ll test out the limitations and go from there.
