Daring Leadership – Brene Brown

For this post, I want to share with you what it means to be a Brave Leader through a class video assignment that we elaborated on. Feel free to express your comments

This video was elaborated by Deborah Hill, Moises Rocha, and me; it is based on the book “Dare to Lead” by Brene Brown.

We can apply the concepts of Leadership from Brene Brown to the Peruvian Agroforestry, and came with the following reflections:
The majority of the leaders in the sector avoid difficult conversations with their colleagues and employees. That is why collaborators do not often provide feedback to their supervisors, or ask for help due to the fear of being seen as weak. At this point, Brene said: “Choose courage over comfort”. We could say that leaders in the Peruvian agroforestry and reforestation sector partially accomplish that objective. First, because they do not create a healthy scenario for their peers to accept vulnerability. Second, the fact that they are in this sector, means that they do not choose comfort because the agroforestry sector has too many barriers to growth compared to other sectors.

Another important point that leaders in any sector should do, is to encourage every member of their organization to think and internalize the reason why they are part of the project. Leaders should foster purposefulness in their workers. Finally, as Brene said in her book, trust is the glue that holds teams and organizations together.
