Typical vs. Maximal Performance

Hey Everyone,

This week’s blog post is interesting, as it put you into the shoes of a person that is going to be hiring others. and We are given the choice between two individuals. Avery, a high performing individual when they are at their best, but at most times they seem to be a little below average. And Jamie, a person that is consistent but will not surpass Avery even in high stress situations. I will going over my choice and why I think that that individual is a better fit.

The person that I am choosing is Avery. He is an individual that can go above what is typical for a lot of workers. The only problem that they have is that they may be lazy and perform sub-par at most times. I feel that can be worked out if we can make it so that Avery has a different view of the workplace. Most people tend to be lazy and underperform because they think that the job that they have is nothing but a thing that they have to do in order to get money to pay rent. But with employee recognition and reward plans we can get Avery to work more. But that creates another problem. If Avery gets the sense that they are an indispensable part of the team, they may think that they can get away with being lazy. So, holding them accountable and giving the right amount of disciplinary action will be needed.

The other reason that I chose Avery is because the company may face some times where employees will need to do more than what is typical. Jamie is stated to be roughly the same when these times happen. This can lead to performance issues and others in the company seeing them as not as hardworking. Being able to adapt and do well in these situations is really important because it happens way more than people really think it does.

Overall, Avery is a better pick for me because I value adaptability in hard situations and the laziness can be worked around.
